I am pleased at the success and response to my first 'blog' assignment. Thank you for sgning in and sharing some of your reflections on nature experiences you've had. As a team, I look forward to us being in integrity, and committing to these assignments throught the remainder of the program. Please fortify our team by helping each other to keep commitments and complete assignmengts as requested.

Y'all are super...looking forward to our next steps down this path through life and learning.

We pack for the Batona trail tommorrow. We'll hike in 7 miles on TRhursday and hike back out on Friday. Lots of water shall be drank(?) in preparation for our two day overnighter.

Meals will be kept simple, a campfire will be had, and we'll only pack what we need (or perceive to need).

I'm getting excited! Goodnight...

Hey there gang. Now that GSE 2006 has concluded and some of us are in or beyond the post Gov. School blues, I look forward to communicating with you via this blog. I think it would be great to gather our BATONA thoughts and discussions here for all to read. We can certainly invite others scholars to join in as well.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Sedge Island

I don't know if any of you have heard of Sedge Island, but if I had to pick one place to spend all eternity, Sedge Island would be at the top of the list. I have recently just spent three incredible days at Sedge, and I would have to say that they were three of the best days of my life, greenheads, mosquitoes, and all. Everything was so simple there, and I lost all sense of time. The worries of the world just seemed to slip away as I was emersed in the beauty that is nature. The simple experience of just sitting on the enclosed porch, feeling the wind blow through my hair, listening to the sea, and watching the sun set was such a calming and peaceful experience. Everything felt right in the world. I hope I go back there one day, no, not hope, I am going back one day. Victory is mine!!!!!!!!

GAIA THEORY CONFERENCE TO BE HELD AT GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY, OCTOBER 14-15, 2006: Overall, the Gaia Theory is a compelling new way of understanding life on our planet. It argues that we are far more than just the "Third Rock from the Sun," situated precariously between freezing and burning up. The theory asserts that living organisms and their inorganic surroundings have evolved together as a single living system that greatly affects the chemistry and conditions of Earth’s surface. Some scientists believe that this “Gaian system” self-regulates global temperature, atmospheric content, ocean salinity, and other factors in an “automatic” manner. Earth's living system appears to keep conditions on our planet just right for life to persist! The Gaia Theory has already inspired ideas and practical applications for economic systems, policy, scientific inquiry, and other valuable work. The future holds more of the same.
